Standard Addition During a housing crisis in Carlinville in 1917, officials needed to find places for people to live. The solution was found in the Sears and Roebuck catalog. The town now has one of the largest collections of these Sears Homes in a neighborhood known as Standard Addition. 152 of the 156 ordered homes are still standing today. Lincoln's Historic Downtown Downtown Lincoln is listed on the National Historic Register. It holds landmarks, including the Christening Scene on Broadway Street and Chicago Street where Lincoln, before he became president, used watermelon juice to christen the town in 1853.
