The Cozy Dog Drive In is a landmark in Springfield because it was here that the batter-covered hot dog was perfected by Ed Waldmire, who decided to call them Cozy Dogs. The restaurant is one of the stops along the historic Route 66 trail. It also sells hamburgers, fries and soups. Tours of the building are available.

With more than 200 years of experience, the New Salem Country Opry still entertains guests with its blend of county music. This show is the longest continuous running opry in Illinois, with performances every Saturday evening. Shows range from local talent to big name artists. The opry house is found 1 mi (1.6 km) south of the New Salem Historical Site on Route 97.
